Devyani Dance Company in Irondale, AL is excited to announce the return of Raquy and the Cavemen, a Middle Eastern drumming experience out of Brooklyn, NY, to Birmingham on Saturday, November 22, thanks in part to the tremendous outpouring from fans at last year’s show. Devyani will perform several numbers alongside the group at Matthew’s Bar and Grill, 2208 Morris Ave at 8:30PM. Tickets may be purchased at www.devyani.net for $15.

Raquy and the Cavemen hail from Brookly,NY and provide an eclectic mix of traditional Middle Eastern music with modern-day drumming for a dynamic sound that continues to keep audiences captivated. Their beats provide the perfect opportunity for interpretation by belly dancers worldwide and serve to pique curiosity and creativity. Raquy Danziger, lead musician and founder of the group, is proficient in dumbek, which is an Arabic hand drum, and the Iranian kamanche, a traditional instrument much akin to a violin. The group’s performance explodes with energy and allows the audience to live vicariously through Danziger and her travels about the Middle East and India.

Danziger has been featured in countless forms of media including the Al-Jazeera Network, National Egyptian Television, and various magazines. She is lauded as the most sought after teacher of Middle Eastern drumming in NYC, and, on a regular basis, she teaches and performs in Egypt, collaborating with famous musicians that include Said El-Artist and Hamish Henkish.

Raquy has released a Doumbek Instructional kit – “Dumbek Fever” – which includes a book, a DVD and a CD that’s selling all over the world. She also released 4 albums: “Naked” (2007), “Jordan” (2005), “Dust” (2003) and “Masmudi” (2001). “Dust” has reached the top 20 on the CMJ world chart and “Jordan”debuted at the top 30. Raquy will be teaching a workshop on Sunday, Nov. 23rd, 1:00 - 3:00pm
